La salute e i diritti sessuali e riproduttivi sono sempre più sotto pressione in Italia. Il governo di estrema destra guidato dalla presidente del consiglio Giorgia Meloni (Fratelli d’Italia) ha applicato politiche restrittive che compromettono l’accesso all’aborto, indeboliscono la parità di genere, erodono le istituzioni democratiche e restringono lo spazio dei diritti civili e delle libertà. Questi sviluppi non sono unici all’Italia. Fanno parte di una più ampia ondata di nazionalismo religioso e tendenze autoritarie, in cui la destra religiosa globale collega attori locali a influenti reti internazionali e persegue strategie coordinate.
Durante questo evento, esploreremo alcune questioni chiave, quali:
- Quali sono le politiche più critiche per il futuro dell’Italia e come si collocano le dinamiche italiane rispetto a quelle di altri paesi europei?
- In che modo religione e politica si intrecciano nel movimento anti-gender? Qual è il ruolo delle reti transnazionali?
- Quali strategie di resistenza possono mobilitare la società civile, i professionisti del settore medico e gli alleati internazionali per difendere i diritti e la democrazia in questo momento cruciale?
Per affrontare questi temi, questo panel riunirà voci all’avanguardia nella ricerca e nella resistenza:
- Giorgia Alazraki, ostetrica e vicepresidente di LAIGA (Libera Associazione Italiana Ginecologi non obiettori per l’Applicazione della 194/78 – ODV)
- Gionathan Lo Mascolo, autore ed esperto di destra cristiana, e vicedirettore di Faith in Democracy Inc.
- Dr. Massimo Prearo, ricercatore presso l’Università di Verona ed esperto di attivismo anti-gender in Italia
La discussione sarà moderata da Sarah Ulrich, giornalista investigativa femminista e autrice di un reportage investigativo sull’influenza della destra cristiana sulla politica italiana.
La tavola rotonda si svolgerà in italiano, tedesco e inglese con traduzione simultanea.
Al termine dell’evento sarà offerto un piccolo rinfresco per consentire ulteriori discussioni e scambi informali.

Sexuelle und reproduktive Gesundheit und Rechte stehen in Italien zunehmend unter Druck. Die Politik der rechtsextremen Regierung von Ministerpräsidentin Giorgia Meloni (Fratelli d’Italia) verfolgt eine restriktive Politik, die den Zugang zu Schwangerschaftsabbrüchen erschwert, die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter untergräbt, demokratische Institutionen aushöhlt und den Raum für Bürger*innenrechte und Freiheiten einschränkt. Diese Entwicklungen lassen sich nicht nur in Italien beobachten. Sie sind Teil einer breiten Welle aus religiösem Nationalismus mit autoritären Tendenzen, in der die globale religiöse Rechte lokale Akteur*innen mit einflussreichen internationalen Netzwerken verbindet.
Zu diesem Thema wollen wir folgende zentrale Leitfragen besprechen:
- Welche politischen Maßnahmen sind für die Zukunft Italiens am wichtigsten und wie sieht die Dynamik in Italien im Vergleich zu anderen europäischen Ländern aus?
- Wie sind Religion und Politik in der Anti-Gender-Bewegung miteinander verflochten? Welche Rolle spielen transnationale Netzwerke?
- Welche Widerstandsstrategien können die Zivilgesellschaft, medizinisches Personal und internationale Verbündete mobilisieren, um demokratische Grundrechte in diesem wichtigen Moment zu verteidigen?
Darüber möchten wir mit diesen Stimmen aus Wissenschaft und Praxis sprechen:
- Giorgia Alazraki, Hebamme und Vizepräsidentin von LAIGA („Libera Associazione Italiana Ginecologi non obiettori per l’Applicazione della 194/78“ – Vereinigung italienischer Gynäkolog*innen zur Verteidigung des Rechts auf Abtreibung)
- Gionathan Lo Mascolo, Autor und Experte für die christliche Rechte und stellvertretender Direktor von Faith in Democracy Inc.
- Dr. Massimo Prearo, Forscher an der Universität Verona und führender Experte für italienischen Anti-Gender-Aktivismus
Moderiert wird die Diskussion von Sarah Ulrich, feministische Investigativjournalistin und Autorin einer investigativen Reportage über den Einfluss der christlichen Rechten auf die italienische Politik.
Diese Podiumsdiskussion findet auf Italienisch, Deutsch und Englisch mit Simultanübersetzung statt.
Im Anschluss an die Veranstaltung gibt es bei einem kleinen Imbiss Gelegenheit für weitere Diskussionen und informellen Austausch.

Sexual and reproductive health and rights are increasingly under pressure in Italy. The far-right government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (Fratelli d’Italia) has pursued restrictive policies that undermine access to abortion, weaken gender equality, erode democratic institutions, and narrow the space for civil rights and freedoms. These developments are not unique to Italy. They are part of a broader wave of religious nationalism and authoritarian trends, where the global religious right connects local actors to influential international networks and pursues coordinated strategies.
During this event, we will explore key questions such as:
- Which policies are most critical for Italy’s future and how do Italy’s dynamics compare with those in other European countries?
- How do religion and politics intertwine in the anti-gender movement? What role do transnational networks play?
- Which strategies of resistance can civil society, medical professionals, and international allies mobilise to defend rights and democracy at this crucial moment?
To tackle these issues, this panel will bring together voices at the forefront of research and resistance:
- Giorgia Alazraki, midwife and Vice-President of LAIGA („Libera Associazione Italiana Ginecologi non obiettori per l’Applicazione della 194/78“ – the association of Italian gynaecologists defending the right to abortion)
- Gionathan Lo Mascolo, author and expert on the Christian right, and Deputy Director of Faith in Democracy Inc.
- Dr. Massimo Prearo, Researcher at the University of Verona, and leading expert on Italian anti-gender activism
The discussion will be moderated by Sarah Ulrich, feminist investigative journalist, and author of an investigative report on the Christian right’s influence on Italian politics.
This panel discussion will take place in Italian, German and English with simultaneous translation.
